Sony Football | Kickathon | Asia-Pacific

Sony has launched a 'Kickathon' interactive game developed by XM Asia in preparation for the FIFA Football World Cup held in South Africa this year.

Players stand a chance to win accommodation and tickets to World Cup matches. Two runner-ups will each walk away with a Sony Bravia television set.

The virtual game takes players from continent to continent as they attempt to kick a soccer ball from Asia to Africa
with as few kicks as possible.

The campaign is part of a long-running project for Sony HD products.

“Since the conception of this campaign in late 2008, we have tried to focus on the fans, building an online social community so they can share their passion for football while we provide them with a positive brand experience,” said David Brown, creative director at XM Asia. “It has been much more successful then we anticipated; but then again, you should never underestimate the enthusiasm of a sports fan!”

In addition to online banner ads running on Yahoo, MSN and ESPN, the campaign is also linked through a Facebook application and has already attracted more than 50,000 members.
