Sony eyes global audience for popular Korean drama

Popular Korean dramedy Hyena is set to tread the global stage, after Sony Pictures Television International (Sony) inked a deal with the show's production company CJ Media for the programme format rights for Europe.

Hyena, which is produced by Korea-based CJ Media, charts the lives of four single men as they each embark on their own quest to find true love.

The deal builds on SPTI’s links with the programme, with the entertainment giant already holding the distribution rights for the programme in Asia-Pacific.

It is believed to mark the first time that SPTI has acquired format rights for television shows outside Japan.
The writing on Hyena was supervised by Wan-Kyu Choi, the head writer behind Prince Of The Legend, another highly popular Korean drama.
