Sony Ericsson pitches Japanese creative and media

TOKYO - Mobile handset manufacturer Sony Ericsson has called a review of both its creative and media business in Japan, with five agencies including McCann Erickson and dual incumbents Dentsu and Hakuhodo believed to be competing.

No information as to the reason behind the pitch has been confirmed at this stage.

Established in 2001 as a joint venture between Sony Corporation and Swedish telecommunications firm Ericsson, the brand competes with the likes of Sharp, Kyocera, Toshiba, Panasonic and Sanyo in the fiercely competitive Japanese market.

Its product range incorporates a number of Sony brands including Walkman, Cyber-shot and most recently Bravia, which launched last year and is available exclusively in Japan.
