Sohu ad revenue surges

BEIJING - Chinese web portal Sohu has posted a 53% year-on-year rise in ad revenue for the second quarter.

The portal, which is the official internet partner of the Beijing Olympics, reported ad revenues of US$43.3 million. Of that, $41.7 million came from display ads and $1.7 million from search.
 
Sohu’s gaming arm also performed well on the back of its in-house role-play title Tian Long Ba Bu. Revenues for that title reached $45.5 million in Q2, while total gaming revenues totalled $47.9 million.
 
Sohu is planning to spin off its Changyou.com gaming subsidiary via an IPO.
