Sohrabji to kickstart OMD India operation

MUMBAI Omnicom has launched its OMD media offering in India, appointing former MediaCom South Asia president Jasmin Sohrabji managing director of its new operation.

According to Mike Cooper, Omnicom Media Group chief executive for Asia-Pacific, Sohrabji has been tasked with kickstarting OMD'S development in India, and introducing the media agency's tools and systems for global and regional clients.

While Cooper acknowledged that OMD was a late entrant in the market, he noted that the media agency could use that to its advantage. "OMD has been a long time coming in India, but we can turn this into our advantage, learn from mistakes and manoeuver our brand so that it is clearly positioned in the market. We see huge opportunity in the marketplace and Jasmin is the best person to help us take that forward," said Cooper. 

Sohrabji, who launched MediaCom in 1996, brings both local and international experience to the role. "One of the key challenges will be to gain critical mass in terms of business as everyone else is ahead in the life cycle and to attract good talent," she said.
