SmarTone Vodafone marketing chief to leave

HONG KONG - Eric Mallia (pictured), director of marketing at Hong Kong's SmarTone Vodafone, is leaving the company.

Mallia, who has headed up marketing for the telco for the past three years, confirmed the news, adding that he intended to become an independent advisor to clients and agencies.

He added that, after a 20-year career in the telecoms and technology world, he would “hopefully be giving the wider marketing community the benefit of my experience”.

Mallia said he would be Asia-focused at first, helping established brands build their operational structures. “I want to give good, direct, practical advice”. He will also seek to advise agencies who “need more specific insider knowledge of the categories they’re dealing with.”

He worked as an independent advisor in the UK prior to taking up the role with SmarTone.

A successor has not yet been appointed. Mallia leaves his role at the end of April.
