Dentsu Young & Rubicam has appointed David Smail as creative

director for its Hong Kong office as part of a drive to revive the

agency.

DY&R Hong Kong's new general manager Luca Valdrighi said there was a

morale problem at the agency, but pinned this on it not having had a

chief for about a year before he took up his post in April. Smail, who

was creative director of DY&R's representative office in Vietnam, will

focus on international clients.

Prior to his Vietnam stint, he was an award-winning copywriter for a

number of agencies in the US, working on Colgate-Palmolive, Ericsson,

Lufthansa and Citibank.

Valdrighi has also organised seminars to inspire staff and clients.

"What we are doing is something of a relaunch to raise the bar because

we are not where we should be," he said.
