Skype names Neary VP in AP

HONG KONG - Dan Neary (pictured) has been appointed Asia Pacific's vice president and general manager for Skype.

“Broadband usage and penetration is growing in almost every country in Asia and we continue to see Skype accelerating, especially in today’s tough economic environment because people feel they can get value and quality without making a huge trade off,” said Neary. “There is a major paradigm shift happening as communications evolve from hardware to software applications, and Skype delivers that application better than anyone else.”

Prior to the move, Neary was vice president of eBay, the sister company of Skype, in the emerging markets of Southeast Asia and India.

Neary began his career at Kellogg, where he led marketing and management operations as the general manager of Greater China and overseeing North Asia.

He will be based in Singapore.
