Skoda Auto backs Planet Green China

SHANGHAI - Volkswagen brand Skoda Auto has sponsored the new Planet Green programming block in China, which will run on the Discovery Channel.

The block will include 40 hours of environmental-themed programmes on 26 of the mainland’s TV stations.
In a bid to tie the car brand more closely to environmental concerns, Skoda is launching a series of Octavia cars developed in line with the China IV exhaust emission standard.

The programming will emphasise consumers’ ability to make choices which limit their ecological footprint.
The Chinese Planet Green block will feature global specials and regionally produced shows. Once an object of ridicule in Europe for its poor quality, Skoda has had a successful image update.

Helped by some strong advertising campaigns, the Czech Volkwagen subsidiary has managed to re-establish itself as a sensible, environmentally friendly choice.

The link up with the Planet Green channel in China indicates that the brand will be depending on a fashionable, green image to differentiate itself in the increasingly crowded automotive space.
