SK launches in-house agency

SEOUL - Chaebol conglomerate SK Group has announced plans to rejoin the advertising fray, with the launch of an in-house agency scheduled for May.

It is unclear what impact the new agency will have on TBWA, for which SK Group is a key client in Korea.

The new agency, tentatively named Marking Company, will be established jointly by SK Telecom and SK energy and will seek to assume duties for all SK Group companies’ advertising. Heading up the agency will be executive vice president of SK Telecom Lee Bang-hyun.

The move comes as SK Telecom signs a deal to acquire a 42 per cent stake in Beijing Taihe & Rye Music (TR Music), China’s largest record company in an effort to expand music distribution in Asia and enhance its mobile phone, content and convergence offerings.

SK Group is Korea’s third largest family-run industrial organisation.
