SingTel launches lifestyle portal

SINGAPORE - SingTel has officially launched a local lifestyle web portal - inSing.com - through its new subsidiary SingTel Digital Media (STDM).

As part of plans to expand its multimedia offering, SingTel’s latest web destination will offer more than 15 content providers and features including search, email, mobile accessibility, event listings and user-generated content.

News content is supported by partnerships with Reuters and AP, among others, while other local content sites such as HungryGoWhere and the Esplanade arts centre provide food and lifestyle information and listings.

Admax has been appointed exclusive reseller for the site, which has already signed up Volkswagen and Sony Pictures as launch advertisers.

Other than display advertising, the site is slated to reach out to small and medium-sized firms for online marketing opportunities and listings.

The site currently boasts more than 11,000 food and beverage listings and will also be pushed extensively to SingTel’s broad customer base of some 500,000 SingNet users and three million mobile subscribers.

The launch follows months of rumours, first reported by Media in April last year.

Varsha Rao, CEO of STDM, said inSing.com’s point of difference is its focus on “hyper-local content, user generated reviews and exclusively commissioned editorial to offer a uniquely Singapore perspective.”

She added: “Our content partners are all recognised international or local media companies that produce high-quality market-leading content in their field.”

SingTel Singapore CEO Allen Lew called his new web platform a “portal to cater to local needs” and a way for the telco to tap into the local digital advertising market.

The SingTel Digital Media subsidiary was also officially unveiled and currently houses a team of 20 covering content plus sales and marketing functions. According to Rao, the team would be expanding in time to come.

A promotional drive to showcase the portal will also be launched locally with creative work produced by The Secret Little Agency and ZenithOptimedia taking on a digital brief while Fulford has been assigned PR duties. SingTel’s incumbent media agency is MEC.
