The multinational network marketing company is one of the first organisations to qualify under the 'BE (Business Events) in Singapore' scheme launched by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) last August.
The amount of financial and non-financial assistance will be determined after the programme
and requirements are firmed up, said Aloysius Arlando, STB assistant chief executive, Business Travel & MICE Group.
Herbalife vice-president, corporate events, Margaret Launzel-Pennes, said Singapore was chosen for proximity, easy access, language and a good labour pool that is "not too expensive",
as well as the "high spirit of partnership" shown by the STB.
She said: "We rate cities through distributorship levels and get their opinions and consensus. As we started to narrow down the pool, Singapore just kept rising."
The main convention on July 21 and 22 will be held at Singapore Expo, which was also used in the
2003 event for 13,000 distributors.
Attendees pay a participation fee as well as their travel and accommodation costs, but Herbalife hosts the convention, training sessions and social events.
Herbalife expects to spend approximately US$2.8 million.
