Sydney The Shangri-La hotel group has made its much anticipated arrival into the Australian market, with the signing of a management agreement for the ANA Harbour Grand Hotel Sydney. According to group director of operations for Shangri-La Mr Symon Bridle the rebranding will occur by early July. The property's new name will be the Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney. Shangri-La had been looking to enter the Australian market for more than a decade. With 561 rooms, the five-star 36-storey property has some of Sydney's most dramatic harbour views. The 81 Club rooms on six floors will become Horizon Club rooms, Shangri-La's retreat for frequent travellers offering special privileges and amenities. The ANA has been a significant player in the corporate meeting and incentive sector. The property has significant function space, with 1,900 sqm of conference facilities incorporating a 670 sqm Grand Ballroom as well as 14 meeting rooms. Mr Bridle anticipated many of the existing staff would remain. New management and training programmes aim to deliver "the hospitality style that Shangri-La guests expect".
