SINGAPORE - Seven regional marketers at Motorola based out of Singapore have been retrenched following global job cuts at the cell phone brand.

Seven regional marketers laid off by Motorola
Sources suggest that the marketing team in Southeast Asia now consists of only one regional marketer.

Neil Stewart, marketing director of Motorola, Southeast Asia, confirmed that some marketers have been laid off in Singapore but declined to give details.

“As part of global redundancies that have been announced by Motorola, a number of people have had to unfortunately lose their jobs. Of course, it is no reflection on their competency.”

Motorola is expected to layoff 3,000 people globally as part of the US$800 million cuts planned for 2009. Layoffs will be made globally across all businesses and functions.
