SYDNEY Sydney has secured more than US$13million worth of convention and event business since July 1. Sydney Convention & Visitors Bureau managing director Mr Jon Hutchison said the seven new international events would draw an estimated 5,600 delegates staying 31,500 hotel nights. "Four of these seven events are science and medical meetings. Sydney has a track record in these fields," he said. "For example, in mid-2006, 500 delegates are expected to attend the congress of The International Society for Biomedical Research on Alcoholism. In 2010, 1000 delegates are expected for the International Symposium On The Genetics of Industrial Micro-organisms." Mr Hutchison added, the bureau would build on its recent success. Other events include: the Amway Taiwan Company Limited Incentive Group, 2003 (1,000 delegates); Congress of The International Christian and Dental Association, July 2006 (1,000); International Christian Medical and Dental Association Student Conference, July 2006 (400); International Federation of Home Economics, 2012 (1,500).
