SCMP editor-in-chief departs

HONG KONG - Mark Clifford, editor-in-chief of Hong Kong daily the South China Morning Post, is departing his role as of 1 April.

In an email to Post staff Monday, chairman Kuok Khoon Ean announced that Clifford would step down to pursue another opportunity.

“On behalf of the board of directors and management of the SCMP Group, we express our deep appreciation to Mark for his efforts and contributions in the past year, and we wish him the very best in his new position,” wrote Kuok.

Clifford’s responsibilities will be assumed by editor C.K. Lau.

Clifford’s departure follows the sudden resignations of three senior SCMP editors in recent months – editor Fanny Fung, managing editor Pauline Loong and business editor Stuart Jackson.
