Mr Gareth Chang has quit as Star TV's executive chairman and CEO
after the SingTel/News Corp lost its bid to take over Cable & Wireless
HKT to Pacific Century CyberWorks.
Joining Star from Los Angeles-based Hughes Electronics International in
September 1998, Mr Chang has also resigned from the News Corporation
board of directors and its executive committee.
The Chengdu native was involved in the launch of DirecTV digital
television in Japan.
News Corporation co-chief operating officer Chase Carey and executive
vice president James Murdoch have been named interim co-chairmen of Star
TV.
Star TV deputy CEO and chief operating officer Bruce Churchill will
assume day-to-day operational responsibility at the satellite TV
network.
Meanwhile, Foxtel CEO Tom Mockridge has been appointed CEO of the Star
TV and Cable & Wireless HKT joint venture.
Mr Mockridge will report to Mr David Prince, executive chairman of the
JV.
