SATELLITE & CABLE BRIEFINGS: Chang resigns Star, News Corp posts

<p>Mr Gareth Chang has quit as Star TV's executive chairman and CEO </p><p>after the SingTel/News Corp lost its bid to take over Cable & Wireless </p><p>HKT to Pacific Century CyberWorks. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Joining Star from Los Angeles-based Hughes Electronics International in </p><p>September 1998, Mr Chang has also resigned from the News Corporation </p><p>board of directors and its executive committee. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>The Chengdu native was involved in the launch of DirecTV digital </p><p>television in Japan. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>News Corporation co-chief operating officer Chase Carey and executive </p><p>vice president James Murdoch have been named interim co-chairmen of Star </p><p>TV. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Star TV deputy CEO and chief operating officer Bruce Churchill will </p><p>assume day-to-day operational responsibility at the satellite TV </p><p>network. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Meanwhile, Foxtel CEO Tom Mockridge has been appointed CEO of the Star </p><p>TV and Cable & Wireless HKT joint venture. </p><p><BR><BR> </p><p>Mr Mockridge will report to Mr David Prince, executive chairman of the </p><p>JV. </p><p><BR><BR> </p>
