Sampson moves up at Bates Indochina

HO CHI MINH CITY - Bates-Asia/141 has promoted John Sampson to ECD of its Indochina operation, adding creative duties for Cambodia to his remit.

In his new role, Sampson will report to Peter Sandor, chief executive of Bates-Asia/141 Indochina. He continues to be based in Ho Chi Minh City.

“My task is to build the team in Vietnam and Cambodia and to grow the business. The two markets are small, but they are developing very fast. Our aim is to pleasantly surprise everybody with our work,” said Sampson, currently the ECD of BatesAsia in Vietnam.

“‘Sam’ has, over the last month, worked across the Indochina region and is now driving our creative product in Vietnam and Cambodia. He put his hand up to take on this role,” said Sandor.

Currently, the WPP-owned agency has 35 and 25 staffers in Vietnam and Cambodia, respectively. In Vietnam, its key accounts include Heineken, Mobifone and Honda. It also handles Caltex in Cambodia.

Prior to joining BatesAsia Vietnam, Sampson was the ECD and founding partner of Workshop Advertising in New Zealand.
