Saatchis puts more money in Thai ops

BANGKOK: Saatchi & Saatchi has invested an undisclosed sum in its Thai operations in a bid to take advantage of lucrative local opportunities and enhance the Bangkok agency's creative role in the network.

The initiative has coincided with the establishment of an internal creative think-tank called The Tribe, a group set up by regional executive creative director, Craig Davis, that comprises the network's six leading creative minds, to assist in major regional pitches.

Armed with the new investment, Jureeporn Thaidumrong - hired last year as ECD and described as "one of the top creative talents in Thailand by Saatchis Thailand managing director, Oranat Asanasen - was one of those handpicked to join The Tribe.

The move is expected to bring the Thai office into a closer working relationship with offices in Hong Kong and Singapore, in particular, as The Tribe provides leadership on regional creative pitches.

The investment also led to the recent hiring of Phanida Phromchanya as client services director, completing the agency's first major hires since 1997.

"The investment is major, said Oranat. "And it isn't just Phanida and Jureeporn, but an investment in a whole team. It is on that level.

"Thailand is being recognised for its potential to contribute to our regional network both in terms of incremental revenue and creative excellence.

"With a relatively large market size in a recovering economy and a high standard of creative work as well as high production quality and value, Thailand yields very promising potential for growth."

Saatchi & Saatchi Thailand currently produced creative work for Asean countries, Australasia and India for P&G brands, and planned to expand aggressively to claim more local business and international creative recognition, said Oranat.
