Saatchis backs Miami Ad School's Asia campus launch

Miami Ad School, the international college for aspiring creatives, is to launch its first Asian campus in Shanghai next year.

The school, which already has branches in the US and Europe, is setting up in China with the help of Saatchi & Saatchi, which has agreed to help sponsor the first batch of students and help recruit the first teachers.

Saatchis creative head and Shanghai MD Peter Soh has already flown to Miami to undergo teacher training. Miami Ad School may also send some of its teachers from US and Europe to teach half-term stints in China, with the aid of translators.

The two organisations are also looking at setting up a web-based course that would be available to students throughout China. Course fees and the level of financial support Saatchis will offer are still being thrashed out.

The agency is looking to enrol at least 12 students in the first classes, scheduled to start in September 2006, though it is due next week to talk to sister agencies within Publicis Groupe about expanding the student intake.

The eventual aim is the school will be open to the whole industry. "We want to get this up and running," said Saatchis China CEO, Pully Chau. "We really want this to have an excellent reputation."
