According to a regional spokeswoman for RMG, it is unclear how Greenfield’s departure will affect the agency’s Asia-Pacific operations, adding that Eastman will visit the agency’s headquarters in Singapore in the upcoming weeks to “assess what’s going on and to say hello.”
The move comes weeks after managing director of XM Asia-Pacific and RMG Connect Singapore and Malaysia Paul Soon announced he would depart his role to head up independent agency Iris’s new digital division.
According to a release by RMG’s holding company JWT: “We have taken a hard look at how we leverage our digital assets and maximize resources to keep digital at the core of our offering. Quite frankly, we haven’t been working as efficiently and effectively as possible. Evolution is needed, and in order to facilitate this, we are making some management changes in order to move forward and build our competitive offering in the marketplace.
“As a result, due to creative and strategic differences, we have decided to mutually part ways with Philip Greenfield,” it continued.
In January, the agency lost key global client of 13 years Nokia when it awarded its digital account to Wunderman, which has set off a wave of executive changes at RMG.
Eastman, who joined the agency in December 2008 from his role as chief executive of the Omnicom-owned Republic Family, will be responsible for the digital direction of RMG and JWT.
