TOKYO: Fashion retailer Right-On has dropped its Japanese agency,

Kyoudo Senden for WPP's media and creative agencies.

The media planning and buying account has been snagged by MindShare and

its partner buying agency Asatsu-DK, while the creative account has been

awarded to J. Walter Thompson. McCann-Erickson and another local agency

Yomiuri Kokoku also took part in the pitch for the account, said to be

worth some US$15 million a year.

MindShare Japan chief executive officer Mark Patterson said the win

underlined the new trend of local advertisers who have come to

understand the need for media planning.

"It's great to get a vote of confidence for our style of media planning

from a significant Japanese advertiser. Media planning is not seen as a

priority by many Japanese clients but this is slowly beginning to

change," he said.
