Bill Browning, EVP, network creative services, said ensuring consistency for the brand was a key consideration. "The entire aim was to better support Star News Asia's advanced information delivery, both technically and aesthetically, while modernising the graphics in parallel with the new set," he said.
According to Gavin McDougall, Star News Asia's executive producer, network news and current affairs, it's the first major overhaul of the service since its launch in 2000. "We wanted to present a look that was more modern, that gave what we did more clarity, and that enabled us to present our news in an easily digestible way for our viewers in each of our markets," he said.
McDougall said the new on-air appearance complemented an 18-month drive to broaden its editorial content, with the next phase involving the development of an online portal for news, in recognition of the changing ways consumers seek information.
