QSNCC reaches 15 and looks outward

BANGKOK The landmark Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre has just celebrated its 15th year of operations and is moving toward attracting even more international business to Bangkok.

Senior vice-president of the QSNCC management company NCC, Mike Kelly, has also moved to Bangkok — after ten years in New Zealand with the company — to drive the strategy forward. Kelly said: "Getting to 15 years of business in convention centre management in Bangkok is a feat we should be proud of. "It is also an opportunity for us to refocus our work. We want to concentrate on two areas. "The first is getting more international business to achieve a better balance with the local business we already get. "The second area we will put a focus on the is international convention and association markets. "Our company had a lot of success in this area in New Zealand and we want to replicate that here now." Kelly added with new and existing venues in Bangkok coming on-line and expanding, business event venues needed to position themselves in the market place by having a particular area of expertise to international decision makers. "We do compete very hard on many different levels with other venues in the city but for 15 years we have been all things to all people and we want to concentrate on some specific areas," Kelly added. "Now we are looking for a slightly fresher direction and we will be selling our strengths "One of our major ones is our location, especially with an underground station right outside our doorstep," he said. The 15th anniversary was also an auspicious occasion for the centre as it coincided with the 60th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne.
