QQ.com reviews ATL creative account

Leading Chinese web portal QQ.com has put its multi-million dollar above-the-line creative account up for review, in a bid to create a leadership identity for the brand in the mainland.

At Media's presstime, six creative agencies were presenting to Tencent chiefs, the parent company for QQ.com — Publicis, Euro RSCG, Grey Worldwide, Dentsu, Lintas and DraftFCB.

Each agency is also providing media solutions through their respective partners, although creative duties will form the central plank of the brand's strategy going into 2007.

"QQ.com has become the largest-trafficked site in terms of numbers in China right now, making us the largest portal," said SY Lau, executive vice-president, online marketing services and corporate branding at Tencent.

"We want to create this leadership position and perception, and we want to communicate this to consumers."

Shortlisted agencies will present to the Tencent board by the middle of this month, with a decision expected shortly after.

Lau added the digital component of the business could be reviewed in six months.
