Q Magazine, a glossy which combines entry-level financial news with lifestyle content, hits newsstands early next year. Produced by Q Publishing, the same management which runs 19-year-old regional title Golf Vacations under Pacom Media, it will feature a 70:30 ratio of investment to lifestyle content. The ratio which is similar to Money magazine in the US.
According to publisher Karen Chan, the title aims to fill in the gaps for investment news geared towards young adults. Most local investment titles, such as Fund Supermart and Smart Investor, target mid- to senior-level investors.
The magazine will be funded through advertising revenue and support from financial institutions.
Meanwhile, a subscription-based magazine, touted as 'The Economist meets GQ', launches at the end of the year, when the magazine will also reveal its title. To be published by Viscion Media, the company is helmed by veterans of the Singapore media industry — editor-in-chief and consultant Ken Jalleh Jr and PN Balji, architects behind news dailies Today and The New Paper.
The magazine will be funded by advertising and subscription, and feature content heavy on politics, commentary, and lifestyle issues for affluent young men.
According to Jalleh, the magazine has already signed up more than 100,000 subscribers ahead of its launch. He described the title's target reader as "the man who cares about how he is perceived and about the way he thinks, lives and looks. He is what others aspire to be".
