Publicis names Koyama Shanghai planning director

SHANGHAI - Publicis has hired Sosuke Koyama (pictured), formerly a senior account planner at Wieden & Kennedy, as planning director in Shanghai.

A spokesperson for Publicis in the market said that the appointment was a move to reinforce the firm’s planning capabilities, which have until now been handled by managing director Chenghua Yang and Greater China planning director George Singleton.

According to Yang, Koyama will act as “a key force” in driving the planning agenda forward. Yang cited Koyama’s “contagious enthusiasm, childlike curiosity and strong consumer intelligence” as key assets.

He is expected to focus on high profile international accounts such as L'Oréal, Lancôme, Garnier, Nestlé, Citi, Ballantine’s, and 3M, and on consumer studies covering topics such as luxury, finance and motherhood. He will report directly to Yang.

Koyama has fifteen years experience in the industry and has previously worked at Wieden & Kennedy and TBWA in Shanghai, Fallon in Minneapolis and Singapore, and BBH and DMB&B in Tokyo.

His client portfolio to date has included BMW, VW, GM, Sony, Starbucks, Purina, Axe, Baileys, Levi’s and Coca Cola, among others.
