Balakrishnan, who has spent 10 years in journalism - latterly as assistant editor of Brand Equity, the marketing section of the Economic Times - joins Xpanse as associate director of consumer context planning.
Xpanse was launched by Starcom MediaVest Group's South and Southeast CEO Ravi Kiran in February 2006.
He noted: "There is a popular belief that the marketing communication business holds no more attraction for today's young people and people are only running away from our industry. At Starcom, we reject that belief. A bright, experienced journalist such as Ravi Balakrishnan joining us is one such example. We are really inspired."
Balakrishnan added: While I have been at the sidelines of the business as an observer, I’m glad to have the chance to actively participate and contribute to it."
