Publicis acquires ATL shop in India

NEW DELHI - Publicis has acquired local creative agency Capital Advertising, marking a rare above-the-line purchase by a holding company in India.

The deal comes after a spate of acquisitions of below-the-line agencies in India, including Publicis Groupe’s own buy of Solutions last year.

Most of India’s large and mid-sized creative agencies already count holding company equity stakes.
Indeed, along with Madison, Capital Advertising is viewed as one of the last mid-sized Indian agencies to successfully compete in the Indian advertising market and has, accordingly, attracted interest from both Omnicom as well as Interpublic Group.

The agency offers Publicis billings of approximately 100 crore (US$25 million) each year, and a client base that includes LG and Maruti.

Capital Advertising was founded in 1992 by three shareholders - HV Subramanian, Sunil Sachdeva and Parshuraman Narayan - and currently employs approximately 50 staff.
