Public Relations: Bashford named head of first A-P Brunswick office

HONG KONG: International agency Brunswick Group has launched its first Asian office in Hong Kong.

The office will be headed by ex-Hutchison 3 director of communications and former South China Morning Post business editor, Ray Bashford.

Bashford assumes the role of partner at the UK-based agency, which counts London, New York and Paris among its locations.

Reported to be the UK's largest financial communications agency, the Brunswick Group's two-person Hong Kong operation has already secured an advisory role for PCCW on the sale of its phone unit to China Netcom.

Sources reveal that the agency's expansion into Asia has been driven in part by existing client demand, with four large Brunswick clients from the UK, US and South Africa being serviced out of the Hong Kong office.

In addition, given its traditional strength in financial communications, Brunswick is expected to focus on Chinese companies involved in IPO and mergers and acquisition activity, and is also planning to open mainland offices in the future.

Currently possessing a total worldwide staff of around 270, Brunswick Group was established in 1987.
