The initiative aims to support the launch of a new inhaled COPD drug treament, Spriva, next month.
COPD is a disease which causes significant deterioration of the lung functions.
The education campaigns, to be kicked off after the drug launch, will follow the 'Breathing for life' theme developed by GOLD (the Global initiative for chronic obstructive lung disease), a global medical forum dedicated to fighting the lung ailment.
"The programme will target smokers and their influencers with the aim of triggering a need to seek medical attention to enhance their quality of life," said Anne Gabriel, Weber Shandwick's managing director in Malaysia.
Weber Shandwick will organise public forums with hospitals as well as corporate outreach programmes to educate employees of corporations on the symptoms of COPD. It will also offer lung screening in its corporate outreach programme.
The campaign will also be implemented in Singapore at a later date.
