PRWEEK: Careers Q&A - Ollas Chas; Senior consultant, Ogilvy PR Indonesia

How did you get into PR?

With a business and marketing background from university, I was interested to work in consultancy. After almost a year working as a marketing associate at one of the biggest local private enterprises in Indonesia, I was offered an opportunity to work for Ogilvy PR. This enabled me to maximise my personal interests with my academic background.

What is the mood right now in the market you're in?

The current multi-crisis and reform era has triggered a rise in transparency and creativity in all sectors, which creates more room for communication channels, including PR, to grow. There are still drawbacks, especially the fact that, for most people, PR is still considered the 'new kid on the block'. It will continue to take considerable effort to convince people that PR works and that results can be expected and achieved.

What do you enjoy about your work environment?

The fact that my team are great people to work with, to address and deliver results for any type of challenge keeps me on a continuous journey to learn from their different ways of thinking.

Who or what is you career inspiration?

My father's business acumen and drive to always succeed.

What piece of advice would you give to someone trying to break into PR?

Have enthusiasm and determination in achieving both your own professional, and your clients', goals. Stay curious and passionate about the world you live in -keep tuned in to your environment for inspiration and ideas.

What has been your biggest mistake?

When I doubted my own intuition in doing the right thing and not fighting for it.

What has been your greatest achievement?

The thrill of chasing and winning, when a client buys into your ideas and thinking.
