I attended press events organised by Strategic Financial when I was a journalist in the mid '90s, and was impressed by its professionalism.
In 1998, I decided to go into financial PR and Strategic Financial came to mind.
What's the mood right now in the market you're in?
The IR market has been growing strongly as more companies list in Hong Kong and value the need to raise their transparency and enhance their investor relations. In the IPO market, the number of deals is expected to rebound.
What do you enjoy about your work environment?
Strategic Financial works closely with listed companies from many different sectors on investor relations. We have to keep updated on developments and trends, which helps us broaden our vision and remain open-minded.
What are your career inspirations?
I find it very satisfying to see the effects that we bring to our clients when their investor relations are enhanced, in turn resulting in their market capitalisations better reflecting their values.
What piece of advice would you give to a PR rookie?
A professional PR practitioner should be an all-rounder. Make the best use of your strengths, but also constantly work to improve your weaknesses.
Your biggest mistake?
I selected a stable but boring nine-to-five job with a much higher starting salary when I graduated. I soon realised it is important to have a keen interest in one's work to develop a successful career, so I left within a year.
What has been your greatest achievement?
In the PR field, there are no individual achievements; it is all teamwork. This allows me to say that our greatest and most recent achievement was Strategic Financial's position in third place in PRWeek's Consultancy Rankings in 2003.
