'Proud' portal targets global fans of China

HONG KONG - Celebrating the growing influence that modern Chinese culture has in the West, a new portal, P2bChi - Proud to be Chinese - is preparing to go live next month.

Based in Hong Kong, the site is aiming to reach out to fans of Chinese culture globally. It will carry news, information and competitions revolving around Asian pop culture icons.

Developed by Nick Miller, chairman and founder of P2bChi, the site is launching with two music-based competitions, with EMI Southeast Asia executive director Hans Ebert spearheading the competitions. The first will ask Asian consumers to submit  songs based on the theme ‘Proud to be Chinese’, while the second will ask music lovers to create and produce a video for the single debut by Scott Hui, the youngest son of Canto-pop star Sam Hui.

“It’s a site that really appeals to English-speaking people, not just in China but around the world, because we’re seeing so much interest in Chinese films, music, clothing and culture,” said Miller. “We wanted to prove that China today doesn’t begin and end with the Great Wall.”
