Proton pitches creative account in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian carmaker Proton is pitching its RM20 million (US$6.1 million) domestic creative business amid tough market conditions exacerbated by rising fuel prices.

M&C Saatchi, incumbent McCann Erickson and TBWA-ISC\Malaysia lined-up for a briefing session with the client yesterday (Tuesday June 10th) a week after petrol prices shot up by 40 per cent in Malaysia.

According to sources, Proton has been struggling to boost its brand image in recent years, and a failed merger talks with Volkswagen in November last year hasn't helped.

TBWA-ISC won the Proton business in 2006, before a pitch in April last year saw McCann take on the estimated RM20 million (US$6.1 million) integrated communications account.
