Press entries down at Cannes

CANNES - Entries for the press category at the Cannes International Advertising Festival, judged by Ogilvy's Tham Khai Meng among others, have taken a hit - down 5.5 per cent on last year - while entries for the festival were up 3.2 per cent overall.

Eighty-five campaigns from Asia-Pacific made the Press Lions shortlist – most from Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, with Ogilvy & Mather Singapore and Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok the most likely contenders. A handful from China, India, Hong Kong and the Philippines also made the list. The category - chaired by Bob Scarpelli, chairman and CEO of DDB Worldwide - received a total of 6,984 entries from 71 categories. Judges from Asia included Ogilvy's Tham Khai Meng and YR's Trong Tantivejakul. Overall, more than 25,000 entries from 80 countries are competing at this year's Cannes festival.
