Founded in 1978, the AFAA has representation in 15 Asian nations. Its objective is to unify the region's advertising industry associations in order to bring about meaningful contributions from advertising activities to regional socio-economic development. The AFAA is known for organising AdAsia, Adfest and the Asia-Pacific Media Forum.

Guha has held top positions at the Times Group of India and Zee Entertainment. He will serve as chairman of the federation for the next four years. The decision was made in a unanimous vote when the group met in Pattaya, Thailand, on 18 March.

Commenting on his appointment, Guha, who also represents the Advertising Council of India said, "There is a real need for an umbrella body like AFAA which represents the interests of marketers, agencies and the media to play a more proactive role in the Asian sub continent”.

Raymond So, representative of the Taipei Association of Advertising Agencies was elected deputy chairman.

So and Guha will chair a new four-person committee comprising Bharat Avalani (Unilever Malaysia), Anthony Kang (the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents, Singapore), Soon Dong Lee (Korea Federation of Advertising Associations), and Ramesh Narayan (Advertising Council of India ).
