Powergen exhibition heads to Thailand's capital

To be an effective and accessible platform in Asia Pacific for both local and international buyers and sellers in the power generation, transmission and distribution business. Powergen wanted delegates to meet each other, to network and to develop business opportunities.

Challenges
Due to the size of the event, with 119 exhibitors and 5,000 visiting delegates, the key challenge was the efficient movement of people out of IMPACT at the end of each show day, a tough task compounded by the fact that there were other major events happening at the same time.
Another challenge was to provide food and beverage catering services to exhibitors at
their booths during the show.

Execution
A three-day educational conference programme was divided up into three sessions per day, with a single final closing keynote session on the third day, covering a diverse range of subjects such as alternative energy, climate change, renewable technology and wind power.
Keynote speakers included Thailand’s energy minister, Dr Piyasvasti Amranand, One Energy Hong Kong chief executive officer, Mark Takahashi, and Dietmar Siersdorfer from Siemens PG.
A pre-show full-day technical tour was conducted to Thailand’s largest power plant in Rachaburi
showcasing how the facility’s power delivery, safety training and social responsibility schemes
worked in a practical setting.

IMPACT’s visitor relations management team used taxi and coach companies, and its own
bus shuttle service to ensure no miscommunication problems.
Bangkok’s taxi drivers speak very little English, so IMPACT staff were also on hand to provide
impromptu translation services.

Verdict
A PennWell Corporation marketing manager says: “We chose IMPACT Exhibition and
Convention Centre because the facilities could combine exhibition and conference in
a compact area.
“The event was a resounding success, achieving the best attendance for Powergen Asia
in its 15 years.”
