Pond's Malaysia spots will air as 12-part TV series

Skincare brand Pond's has turned a two-year-old TV spot and its sequel into a 12-part television series to air in June.

The original TVC featured a couple in a romantic storyline and the two actors have become household names since the initial commercial. Malaysian audiences were left to decide on the ending in a competition. "Consumers who have loyally followed the ads have remarked on numerous occasions that they would like to see the commercial turned into a series or movie," said Gary Read, business unit director, of Ogilvy & Mather Malaysia, the agency behind the campaign. The Table for Two series will include "mild" product placement within it. However, Ogilvy claimed that the entire storyline and characters were inextricably associated with the brand. Sonal Dabral, who was the MD and ECD at Ogilvy Malaysian office until his recent move to Ogilvy Singapore as executive director, wrote the first TV spot and directed the second. Lee Swee Chin, Unilever Malaysia brand manager, said of the project: "We want to move away from just making commercials and make advertising into a more entertaining format with the Pond's brand integrated into the story."
