Police raid will not hurt G.O.D: Young

HONG KONG - G.O.D Hong Kong founder and CEO Douglas Young believes a high-profile police raid over the store's sale of 14K t-shirts and postcards will not negatively affect the brand.

The products displaying the name 14K - which is also the name of a well-known Hong Kong triad group - were confiscated, with police arresting and releasing almost 20 people in connection with the sales.

It was not clear at press time if any charges arose from the incident.

The raid was carried out after coverage of G.O.D’s controversial stock appeared in Chinese-language dailies.
The company argued that the raid was turned into a media circus, adding that the products would have been removed from sale had the Hong Kong authorities requested the fashion and lifestyle chain do so.

Young, said that while the coverage would not affect the standing of the brand, the raid impinged on creativity.

“For Hong Kong’s creative industries to blossom, artists and designers must be allowed more creative freedom. At the moment we are lagging behind.”
