Piracy problem rising in Asia Pacific

HONG KONG - Asia-Pacific's piracy problem is worsening, according to new figures from Casbaa and Standard Chartered Bank, with the results showing losses are expected to hit US$1.54 billion this year compared with $1.13 billion in 2006.

But Hong Kong is bucking the trend, with the SAR showing a 15 per cent fall in lost revenue as a result of lower subscription costs for pay-TV platforms thanks to increased competition in the market.

Pakistan was included in the survey for the first time, with the market currently estimated to be losing US$110 million annual through piracy.
