Petronas briefs agencies amid fuel price hikes

KUALA LUMPUR - The corporate division of state-owned oil giant Petronas has invited agencies to attend a briefing session today (Tuesday 17 June), as the company confronts image problems in the wake of fuel price hikes in Malaysia.

The brief is expected to look at ways of informing ordinary Malaysians - many of whom blame Petronas for the recent fuel price hikes - of the role the company plays in Malaysian society.

One source involved in the review commented: "Petronas earns billions in profits, and Malaysians are frustrated that this money is not being used to keep the price of fuel down."

"The public are becoming ever more questioning of the government and state-owned companies, especially after the elections. This brief is expected to look at way of explaining the role Petronas plays in boosting the economy, providing jobs and building schools."
