PepsiCo signs as sponsor for US Pavilion at 2010 Shanghai Expo

SHANGHAI - Despite Coca-Cola being named as global sponsor for the 2010 Shanghai Expo, PepsiCo has signed a US$5 million deal as a key partner with the US Pavilion at the mega event.

Coca-Cola, which signed as sponsor for the event last December, will have their own Pavilion and all distributions outlets at the Expo will sell Coca-Cola branded soft drinks and tea. Pepsi will only be able to use the US Pavilion as its promotional platform.

To date, organisers have raised less than one-third the estimated US$61 million needed to build and fit-out the US pavilion. Other sponsors include Yum, 3M, General Electric, Dell, Cargill and Golden Eagle.

“Another concern with the US Pavilion is that it could have too many sponsors,” said a source. “How are they all going to share the resources and time in the Pavilion?”

The Shanghai World Expo will take place from 1 May to 31 October, 2010.
