ParknShop claims biggest Hong Kong publication mantle

HONG KONG: ParknShop magazine has become the territory's largest-circulating publication, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation.

The title, which is distributed at the supermarket chain's outlets throughout Hong Kong, has a circulation of 820,000, compared with about half-a-million for mass circulation daily Oriental Daily News and Apple Daily's 360,000.

The bimonthly magazine is published by custom publisher Redwood. Publisher Jim Marett attributed the success to the ability of understanding the target market - "young working mothers looking for cooking and lifestyle tips".

He added that the magazine is also selling advertising space, with most of the advertisers wanting advertorial spreads.

"Custom magazines like ParknShop can be more overt in their advertising but people will accept it only as long as they find it beneficial in their lives.
