Pan unveils youth marketing outfit

SHANGHAI - Former Pepsi China marketing director Chris Pan, who left the company in January this year, is launching a youth marketing content company.

The eponymous company will offer marketing, entertainment, media, PR and HR services for youth brands in China.

“I intend to build the next generation media and marketing empire — but not in the traditional sense,” said Pan. “I want to use media and marketing to inform and inspire people.”

He said he intends to buy equity in companies operating in four different categories: insight, branded content, smart media and talent development.

Pan is currently in talks to form joint equity partnerships with production, peer-to-peer video, consumer public relations and blog tracking firms, but has yet to sign formal contracts with any companies or clients.
Pan, who is 29 years old, joined Pepsi in October 2005 and left at the beginning of this year.

“When I joined Pepsi, I gave myself two years to meet my goals — and to dissolve my own job,” he said.
“Goal one was to change my role from emarketing director to marketing director of interactive and new initiatives — interactive marketing should not exist as a silo. Goal two was to learn about the China market.

“And goal three was to build a network of resources to help set up my own company. I accomplished all I wanted to.”

Prior to joining Pepsi, Pan worked at McKinsey in the US as a business analyst.
