A public road by day, Smith Street becomes a haven for hawker fare after 5pm. About 20 stalls line one side of the street, while tables fill the other side. The flanking shophouserestaurants
provide an indoor alternative.
A part of the street can be reserved for two hours from 7.30pm on weekdays for private
parties of between 120 and 150 people. Or you can book the entire street if there are 500 to
800 people – ideal for convention groups.
Entertainment can also be arranged through the Chinatown Business Association. Stage acts include Chinese opera, a traditional orchestra and lion dances.

ROOF TERRACE

The Roof Terrace is suited to private functions, as well as dining and cocktail receptions. It offers spectacular views of Marina Bay and the city skyline. The venue’s capacity varies from
250 guests if the studio is in use, or 450 if vacant. Events held on the roof are mostly corporate. Last New Year’s Eve, the Urban Redevelopment Authority party had the
Marina Bay countdown celebrations as its backdrop, with 5,000 spheres carrying the
collective wishes of Singaporeans for the future and fireworks lighting the sky at the stroke of midnight.
One constraint is that events must be compatible with the Esplanade’s standing as a
performing arts centre, which means no dance music, dancing, party games or lucky
draws with loud comperes or deejays.

The marina’s unique setting offers both indoor and outdoor facilities for corporate and association events. Located on Singapore’s extreme west coast, the marina enjoys dramatic sunsets and an open-air reception can be staged by the sea.
The club boat, Lady Olivia, can be hired for a grand entrance by VIP guests. Outdoor
activities include teambuilding, poolside parties and barbecue or buffet dinners.
The venue’s varying capacities give event planners more choice: up to 50 people at the Pool Deck, up to 150 at the Bistro Terrace, and a maximum of 350 on the Lawn. Marquees
are not provided in the package, except at the Bistro Terrace, but are easily arranged.
Activities can be packaged together with any function booking. A regular corporate
user cites an additional benefit: “Raffles Marina has 17 well-appointed guestrooms to
accommodate overseas participants attending eminars and training,” she says.

Club Islander, one of the smaller beach bars n Sentosa, is popular for group games or
teambuilding activities on the beach. ocated on the fine sands of Palawan each, the venue overlooks a private lagoon.
There is a spacious wooden deck with a etractable shelter and event planners can ost events on the deck or the beach.
Operated by Sentosa Leisure, the menu hoice is limited to either barbecue or an nternational buffet. Although most groups ange in size between 130 and 150 people, he club will cater to private functions of 0 guests and upwards.
