Ong promoted to editorial director of MediaCorp Publishing

SINGAPORE - MediaCorp has appointed former Straits Times journalist Ong Soh Chin (pictured) as editorial director of its magazines division.

She replaces Michael Chiang, who leaves the post after two decades with the company. Chiang will continue in a consultant role.

Ong joined MediaCorp Publishing from PR agency Communications DNA in December last year, as deputy editorial director.

Her 15-year career in journalism involves a six-year tenure as editor of Cleo magazine and five years editing the Life! section of The Straits Times.

She was also a senior political correspondent for The Straits Times.

Ong said: "The market has become extremely competitive, with many new players entering the market - some good, some bad. The business is being pulled in many different directions, and the focus for MediaCorp has to be quality and integrity."

She added: "We won't jump on band wagons, nor will we react to fads. We are playing for the long term. As long as we put out a good product, readers will come."

MediaCorp Publishing's key titles include 8 Days, FHM, I-Weekly, Arena, Vanilla and Elle, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary in Singapore.
