Omnicom buys in India
Omnicom Group has acquired a majority interest in Indian field marketing player Gotocustomer Services India.

The deal marks its first major Indian purchase since Asia-Pacific chairman and CEO Michael Birkin (pictured) moved to the region in 2005. While Birkin declined to disclose the value of the deal, he told Media that the Indian field marketing sector is primed for growth, given the rapid rise of the country's middle class.

"India is as important to Omnicom as China," he said.

The investment follows the acquisition of China field marketing specialist Unisono earlier this year (Media, 14 March).
