Since then, OMD has grown into one of China’s most successful media agencies, culminating in the win of the Johnson & Johnson business last summer.
Barry Cupples, Omnicom Media Group’s Asia-Pacific CEO, said: “Maggie is one of the pillars upon which we have built our global business.”
Choi, who will remain based in Hong Kong, said: “It’s an exciting time for media agencies. Evolving client needs, fast changing market dynamics and the continued proliferation and segmentation of media platforms are all huge opportunities as well as challenges.”
The shift in Choi’s role will give Cupples more time to focus on other tasks, such as acquisitions and diversifying OMD’s service offering. He also has plans to fine-tune and differentiate the positioning of OMD and Omnicom stable-mate PHD.
Cupples took over as head of Omnicom’s media offering in June last year, following the departure of Mike Cooper to PHD in London.
