OMD HK hits out at PCCW

Media agency OMD Hong Kong has lashed out at PCCW over the telecom giant's last minute withdrawal of CSL's 1010 campaign from Now TV, on the day it was scheduled to air.

PCCW did not return calls for comment but in a letter to OMD, said the TVC required approval from PCCW's senior management before it could air, because the material in the advertisement was in direct competition with PCCW products and services. The ad was promoting CSL's 1010 mobile service brand service, including content from Now TV rival i-Cable.

But Jackson Kwok (pictured), managing director OMD Hong Kong, described PCCW's last-minute pullout as unreasonable and unprofessional. "Everyone knows 1010 is a 3G brand, it's not a car company, it's not a retailer, and it's not an FMCG brand. Everyone knows what it is," he said.

"Why did they take the booking if it was a problem? We would have excluded Now TV from the media plan if we knew there would be problems."
